About Kalkan, Turkey

Kalkan is a picturesque town located on Turkey’s south Mediterranean Turquoise coast. It is a peaceful yet sophisticated haven for local residents and holiday makers who return year after year, for its warm weather, stunning beaches and excellent array of restaurants.

With a stunning back drop of the Taurus mountains and nestled in to one of Europe’s most breathtaking Mediterranean bays, Kalkan is often referred to as the “Jewel of the Mediterranean coast” or “Turkey’s best kept secret”. This is not surprising with its beautiful harbour, full of traditional Turkish boats, and its bustling old town, with its vibrant cosmopolitan atmosphere.

By day most Kalkan visitors enjoy lapping up the sun by the pool, the beach or at one of the fabulous beach clubs located around the bay (accessible by taxi or water taxi). The more energetic will find small boutiques and local shops lining the zigzagged cobbled streets in the old town. Water sports, boat trips, diving and fishing trips are also available from the harbour, and don’t forget a Turkish bath and, for the men, the experience of a Turkish barbers’ shave.

In the evening, many head into the town centre to choose from Kalkan’s 100+ restaurants! Many are located on roof terraces, offering views across Kalkan’s rooftops to the sea, and others are on the marina, by the harbour or literally waterside. Whatever your budget you will find superb food and drink to enjoy, with fabulous friendly service for which Kalkan locals are renowned.

There is plenty more to see and do too, if you wish to explore beyond Kalkan itself. The 12 mile sandy Patara beach with its ancient ruin backdrop, and incredible sunsets, is just 15 minutes away and even closer is the award winning Kaputas beach. Saklikent Gorge isn’t far away either (45 mins) where it is possible to raft down the icy river and walk/wade through the gorge and canyon afterwards. Then there are the Roman and Byzantine historic sites located within 60-90 minutes. And if you really fancy something different, you can spend the day in the Greek Iland of Meis!

There is much more information on all the local activities included in your Villa Elia information pack.
